The painting Portrait Alida Christina Assink – 1833

The painting shows a wealthy young woman of 23 years old sitting in an almost Greek setting with columns and vases filled with vines. The hunting dog next to her is the symbol of perseverance. The painting was made in the neoclassical style and is very detailed.
Alida Christina Assink was born on 19 August 1810 in Zaandam. In 1839 Alida married Hendrik Provo Kluit in Amsterdam. Together they have 3 sons and 2 daughters. It is a wealthy family. Hendrik graduated as a lawyer, is director of the police in Amsterdam, mayor of Amsterdam from 1853 to 1854 and member of the 2nd chamber. Alida dies in The Hague on October 6, 1886.
