The painting Girl dressed in blue – 1641
Original: oil paint on canvas 66.5 x 82 cm, wxh
Johannes Verspronck painted an unknown girl of wealthy parents. In the 17th century the children of wealthy people were richly dressed. In this case in modern fine clothing, stitched with gold brocade, with lace collar and cuffs, expensive pearls and a feather range. All attention goes to the girl because Johannes uses a neutral background and uses the light and shadow. When you look at her, you can see that she is still a very young girl, probably about 10 years of age.
Her image was used in 1945 on the new Dutch fl. 25, – note.
