Self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh
Original: oil on cardboard 34 x 42 cm bxh
Vincent moved to Paris in 1886 after his brother Theo informed him about the new colourful French art of painting. Since models were too expensive to practice with, he soon applied this new art to self-portraits. Here he painted himself as a fashionably dressed Parisian, with loose, rhythmic brushstrokes in striking colours.
