The weigh house and the crane on the Spaarne in Haarlem by Gerrit Adriaensz Berckheyde
Original: oil paint on panel 45.5 x 35 cm, wxh
Date: 1660 – 1698
As the painting says, Gerrit painted the weigh house and the river called Spaarne in Haarlem. In the water are the boats, and on the quayside is the trade ready for further transport with the horses. The bridge ‘Gravenstenenbrug’ and a Windmill can be seen in the distance, on the left the church Bakenessekerk. Nice to know is that the Weighhouse, the bridge ‘ Gravenstenenbrug’ and the church ‘Bakenessekerk’ still look exactly like this painting.
