The life of Floris Claesz van Dijck
Floris Claesz van Dijck is a famous Dutch painter, he belonged to the Dutch school and is especially known for his still-lives.
The painter Floris Claesz van Dijck worked and lived in Haarlem for the biggest part of his life. In 1604 he got engaged. After ending his education in Holland he left for Italy in order to study over there. When he came back to Holland he was admitted to the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke where he occupied a high position.
In the last 25 years of his life, Floris Claesz van Dijck was less active as a painter. Why is not known exactly. It could be that Van Dijck did not have to earn his money anymore with painting. As his testament, made in 1605, showed he died a wealthy man.

Floris Claesz van Dijck is mostly known for his still-lives and realistic reproductions of flowers and plants. He also painted ‘ontbijgens’, Dutch for ‘small breakfasts’, being a set table with nuts, fruit and cheeses. Only 20 still-lives of Floris Claesz van Dijck are known.
